Main Event Press is the publisher of the Nate Walker BMX Adventure series. This is a series of books intended for children ages 7 -12 years. The first book in the series is titled Okay, Riders, Set 'Em Up. It tells the story of Nate Walker who dreams of being a BMX racer, but his parents are afraid that the sport might be too much for him. Nate's friend, Joey "the Firecracker" Franzen, is the best BMX racer in the district and is willing to help Nate along. Still, Nate has no idea what it takes to be a good racer or if he can learn enough in time to compete at Grand Nationals. What he does know, even from the start, is that he has to be relentless in pursuit of his dream. ISBN 0-9774129-0-3

How did I get started? My son has been a BMX racer for four years and his fifth-grade teacher suggested that we could write a book about BMX racing. Last summer I started outlining and writing a story and soon it had a life of its own. I thought the story was fun and my son, Nate, said it was "awesome." This was no surprise since the main character has a lot in common with him. Instead of spending years looking for a publisher I decided to publish the book myself. Fortunately for me I found two very helpful individuals, Corrinne and Seal Dwyer from North Star Press of Saint Cloud , who helped me transform the book from a raw manuscript into its final form complete with illustrations.
The second book in the series is titled On the Gate and I expect to be publishing it in May of 2007 which is about when the outdoor BMX season begins in Minnesota. On the Gate tells a more complex story aimed at a slightly older reader than Okay, Riders, Set 'Em Up. Nate Walker is eager to begin his second season of reacing. However, he soon finds out that the path from Intermediate to Expert has a lot of interesting obstacles including his little sister who wants to give BMX racing a try. Not only does Nate need to cope with his sister's interest in racing, it turns out that he has to race against his friend, Joey "the Firecracker" Franzen, one of the best racers at Oakview Park BMX. To make things even more difficult, Nate learns that his friend Logan Tanner spent the winter training and learning to use clips so he's faster than ever. Between racing Joey, worrying about competing with his sister, and trying to keep up with Logan Tanner's new found racing speed, it looks like Nate will have a difficult time winning any races and earning his way toward becoming an expert. Nate has some exciting and even funny races as he gets ready for the State Championship finals. The big mystery is whether he will be able to make it to Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All he needs is a little help from his friends.
